PCOSS was approved second base of 111 Project

Recently, fifty bases of 111 Project for the year of 2017 was approved for establishment. The 111 Project, also known as Higher Education Discipline Innovation Project, which is jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China, aims at building 100 bases nationwide to introduce 1000 talents from top 100 universities and research institutions worldwide to form top-level research teams and to foster the development of frontier disciplines and national key disciplines, and to enhance scientific research.
This is the second 111 project base organized by PCOSS. The first base is on surface physical chemistry and biophysical chemistry. The newly approved base is focused on nanoscale surface/interface and cluster chemistry for energy material chemistry.
The chief scientist of the base is Prof. Suyuan Xie, vice director of PCOSS. About 14 scientists from abroad were invited to collaborate with this base, including 3 leading scientists, Prof. Martin Head-Gordon (UC Berkeley, Member of the National Academy of Sciences), Prof. Jeremy Baumberg (Univ. Cambridge, Fellow of Royal Society), Prof. Makoto Fujita (Univ. Tokyo). The base will be supported for the period from 2017 – 2022.
