On 22 November, The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced their results for the 2023 selection of new academicians, recognizing eminent scientists and scholars across the nation with the highest academic honor. Three distinguished XMU faculty members have been elected as new academicians. Professor Zheng Nanfeng from our lab were selected as CAS academicians in the Division of Chemistry.
Nanfeng Zheng received his B.S. from Xiamen University in 1998. In 2005, he obtained his Ph.D. degree from Univ. of California-Riverside. During 2005-2007, he worked as a research associate at University of California-Santa Barbara. In 2007, he moved to Xiamen University as a full professor and was appointed as a Changjiang Chair professor in 2010. Prof. Zheng’s research focuses on the surface and interface chemistry of functional materials, bridging the realms of fundamental exploration and practical applications, particularly in the fields of catalysis, energy and environmental science. Several catalytic technologies derived from his discoveries have already found practical applications in industry. He has published more than 300 papers in journals such as Science and Nature with over 33,000 citations and obtained over 50 national authorized invention patents. He is currently serving as a senior editor of ACS Central Science, and also advisory/editorial board members of Chemical Reviews, Joule, Chem, Nano Research, Small Methods, Inorganic Chemistry Frontiers, and several other journals. He has received a number of awards including National Natural Science Award of China (Second Prize, 2018), National Teaching Achievement Award of China (Second Prize, 2018),Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Innovation Award (2021),Xplorer Prize (2019),Chinese National Young Scientist Award (2016), Distinguished Young Investigator Award from NNSF-China (2009). He was selected as a Chinese Chemical Society Fellow in 2022, and a New Cornerstone Investigator in 2023.
