Title: Iridacyclopentadienes on the way to Iridabenzenes and Iridanaphthalenes

Speake: Prof. Margarita Paneque, Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Spain

Date/Time: 10:30-12:00 AM. May 26, 2018

Location: Room 202, Lujiaxi Building

Biography:

Margarita Paneque studied Chemistry and received her Ph.D. from the University of Seville (Spain), working on small-molecules insertion and cyclometallation reactions performed by nickel alkyls. After a postdoctoral stay in Sheffield, in the lab of Peter Maitlis, where she studied some catalytic hydrosilylations of olefins and also showed for the first time the displacement of Cp*H from a [Cp*RhH] complex upon addition of phosphine, she incorporated into the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), first in the Institute for Materials Sciences (ICMSE) and then in the Institute for Chemical Research (IIQ, Seville), in which she was the Director during the period 2004-2009, and at present is Research Professor. In 2009 she was awarded with the Bruker-Spain Research Award on Inorganic Chemistry.

She has been visiting professor at different universities and research centers: Rutgers (NJ, USA, Alan Goldman, 2017), ICOOM-CNR (Florence, A. Rossin, 2012), Vienna (Austria, Kurt Mereiter, 2006), Bordeaux I (2006), La Sapienza (Rome, Mauro Basseti, 2000), LCC-CNRS (Toulouse, Sylvianne Sabo-Etienne, 1999). She maintains a long-lasting collaboration, still active since 2001, with Dr. Veronica Salazar, from Pachuca-México, with several students from México having spent stays in Seville for different periods of time, from short stays (3 months) to long periods (2 years) with the result of joint PhD theses, one of those (along with a Master thesis) currently in progress.

She has also participated in many dissemination activities: Fair of Science, Week of Science, European Night of Researchers, Science Women Day, demonstrations at Schools, etc. In April 2018, she has been named the Institutional Coordinator of the Delegation in Andalusia of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
